Get to Know Nate

This month we’re featuring Nate Kresge! Nate, along with wife Alicia Mills, took over ownership of Burn30 in 2022. He is also the founder of GK Visual, a video production company in Harrisburg. Alicia is also a Physician Associate in Urology with UPMC.

They both have a passion for fitness and believe in Burn30’s goal to educate clients in their strength and fitness journey.

What made you and Alicia want to take over Burn30?

I’ve been a Burn30 client for over 13 years—it’s the only fitness program I’ve ever been able to stick with long-term. Alicia and I both love the mission of Burn30, the people who make up this community, and the impact it’s had on so many lives. When Mary approached me about taking over ownership, we were genuinely excited about the opportunity to continue the Burn30 story and help even more people change their lives through fitness.

What was your fitness journey like?

I was active in sports growing up and through high school, but after that, my exercise habits became inconsistent. I’d go through phases of working out at the gym or trying to run but never stuck with it. Eventually, my doctor gave me a wake-up call—she told me I needed to start exercising because my health and weight were heading in the wrong direction. In a way, she wrote me a prescription for Burn30.

Alicia is such a great partner and I’m so lucky that fitness is a priority for her as well. Having someone who keeps you accountable is a huge help.

How do you balance fitness with the rest of your life?

For years, I used the excuse that I just didn’t have time to exercise. Once I made fitness a priority, I realized you have to make the time. Between managing businesses and being a dad, life is definitely busy—but I can’t imagine not working out regularly. I schedule Burn30 sessions twice a week and fill the rest of the week with lifting at home, running, walking, or hiking. Some weeks are better than others, but staying active always remains a priority.

What are your current personal fitness goals?

I want nutrition to be a bigger focus for me. Between traveling, a busy schedule, and my love of food, it’s easy to fall off track. I’m also working on making stretching a consistent part of my routine—it’s something I know I need to prioritize just like my workouts.

What’s your favorite exercise?

I really enjoy lifting heavy. It’s rewarding to see progress from week to week and to realize how much stronger I’ve become over time. It’s crazy seeing how much more I can lift at the last workout of one of my monthly routines at Burn30.

What’s your least favorite exercise?

Do I have to pick just one? Burpees and Bulgarian split squats definitely top the list—they feel more like punishment than exercise!

What type of workouts do you enjoy most (e.g., weightlifting, cardio, yoga, HIIT)?

I gravitate toward weightlifting—especially upper body work—but I also enjoy getting out for a slow run once a week. This time of year is my favorite for that, when the weather’s cool and the scenery’s changing.
