The Importance of Variety in Your Exercise Routine

Creating and maintaining a successful fitness routine is no easy feat. It takes a lot of time, effort, and commitment to feel like fitness is truly a part of your routine. And that’s something to celebrate! As you continue on your fitness journey, you might consider starting to vary your routine. Keep in mind that doing the same types of workouts over and over is not a bad thing, but there are benefits to adding some variety:

  • Reduced risk of injury from overtraining: While consistency is important for building strength and endurance, it’s important to continually challenge the muscles in new and different ways. This also makes sure you don’t train the same muscles in the same way, which can lead to muscle strain and injury.

  • Combat boredom: Routine can be great for building consistency, but it can also get repetitive and boring over time. Trying out new exercises and workouts can help keep you interested and motivated.

  • Overcome plateaus in your fitness goals: If one of your fitness goals is weight loss or building muscle, you are likely to come across a plateau in your progress. As you train, your body learns to adapt to the new challenges you’ve given it, which means it is ready for new challenges and stimuli.

This is why your trainers at Burn30 make sure to switch up your workouts every 5 weeks to make sure there is variety in your routine.

If you’re not sure how to switch it up on your own, there are a couple of different ways to keep it fresh. For instance, try changing the types of exercises you try. An example could be, instead of just running or walking on the treadmill for cardio, try the elliptical at the gym or a dance class near you. You can also vary the type of workout structures, instead of doing straight sets or supersets, try a pyramid structure or giant set.

At the end of the day, simply don’t be afraid of trying something new!
